Being the smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island remains well connected with 98 percent broadband coverage. This high connectivity makes it the third most connected state in the country and with the least amount of underserved population amounting to three percent. This increased connectivity is highlighted by the 98.4 percent coverage of both 25 Mbps wired broadband and 100 Mbps broadband in the state.
Rhode Island has also one of the highest in terms of the coverage in each service with an average of 55.1 Mbps average speed. The widest coverage is given by wireline service with 99.1 percent across the state. 96.9 percent of the population in the state has access to cable service, which is definitely higher. Fiber optic and DSL service follows right behind with coverage of 84.8 and 83 percent respectively.
However, Rhode Island has zero coverage for one-gigabit broadband and fixed wireless services. With only 45 internet providers, Rhode Island has managed to offer wide scale internet connectivity across the state. However, there have been no reported improvements in the wired broadband coverage offering more than 10 Mbps speeds.
